MY GOD
(after Sandra Beasley)

My god comes from the desert
somewhere in the midst of dead,
red, and Mediterranean seas.

My god is an ambisexual
shape-shifter who writes right
to left, left to right, up to down.

My god created the blues
on a guitar, birthing them
deep in the desert of Mali.

My god plays word games
with Jesuits, Buddhist monks,
Daoists, Dervishes, Druids,

Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs,
Zoroastrians, and even
your all-purpose agnostic.

My god is profound, profane,
snarky, sensitive, hates mimes
and pretention, and dances only

when the pink moon shines.
