A SONNET PLUS ONE ABOUT THE BRAIN

Within the brain a thought is a function of time, f (t),
and a diffident occupier of space, f (x);
it moves from place to place, x (t), on a whim
in an attempt at discovery (S = Surprise).

The summary of places it’s been, Σ (xo…xn)
is a circuit and its content a memory, M (x)
or Memorex, with the shape of a sail
depending on wind (W) and trim.

The wind is a type of energy (E) or metaphor
blowing through the brain with a passion
as an emblem of the century F (c) in which it lives
even if its breath blows on the embers
of a richer previous age F (c-1). Therefore

any fashionable thought is proportional to the ratio
F (c) divided by F (c-1) as if anything goes.
